What do all the different types of therapy mean?

What is Integrative therapy?

This is where your Psychologist will use a combined approach of different evidence-based therapies to meet your individual needs.

What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or CBT is based on the idea that our thoughts, feelings, and what we do (behaviours) are connected. If one of these is changed, it can alter the others.

We can often fall into patterns of thinking and reacting a certain way, which can directly impact how we feel, how we see ourselves, and how we see the world. CBT can help us notice these patterns, notice the ways we think and respond, and explore how these can be changed to support us in feeling better and understanding ourselves more.

What is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy or ACT is based on the idea that life can be painful and we can embrace our thoughts and emotions rather than fighting or feeling guilty about them. ACT is about facing our difficulties head-on rather than avoiding them, which can lead to more stress.

What is Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)?

Compassion Focused Therapy or CFT aims to help us deal with shame and self-criticism, which can often impact our mental wellbeing. CFT can help us regulate our mood, increase feelings of safety, self-acceptance, and our ability to comfort ourselves.

What is Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT)?

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy or DBT aims to teach us how to live and be present in the moment, help us develop healthy ways of coping with stress, support us in managing our emotions, and improve our relationships with others.

What is Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)?

Interpersonal Therapy or IPT is based on helping us learn about ourselves, our relationships with others, and our social interactions. It can focus on unresolved grief, difficult life transitions, role disputes, and interpersonal difficulties.
